This Privacy Policy describes how Akaalo Ltd ("Akaalo", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects information in connection with our website at akaalo.com and the Nambi offline AI tutor software ("Nambi").
1. Who We Are
Akaalo Ltd is registered in Uganda and Ireland. We build offline AI educational tools for learners in Uganda and across Africa. Our registered contact email is hello@akaalo.com.
2. Information We Collect
2a. On this Website (akaalo.com)
When you use our contact form, we collect:
- Your name and email address
- Your message and the category of enquiry you select
Contact form submissions are processed by Web3Forms. We do not store submissions on our servers. We do not use tracking pixels, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics on this website.
Standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, page visited, timestamp) may be collected by Cloudflare, our hosting provider, for security and performance purposes. We do not use these for profiling.
2b. Payment Information
Donations made through this website are processed by Stripe or PayPal. We do not see, store, or handle your payment card details. All payment processing is subject to Stripe's and PayPal's respective privacy policies.
2c. Nambi Software (Offline Application)
Nambi is an offline application that runs entirely on a local device. By design:
- No student data is transmitted to Akaalo servers during normal use
- Session logs (interactions, duration, quiz responses) are stored locally in a SQLite database on the device
- If a programme operator exports session data for grant reporting or monitoring purposes, that export is handled by the operator and Akaalo may receive anonymised or aggregated outcome data only
- Nambi does not require students to create accounts or provide personal details to use the software
3. How We Use Information
- To respond to contact form enquiries
- To process and acknowledge donations
- To measure learning outcomes for grant reporting (aggregated, anonymised data only)
- To improve Nambi's curriculum and AI responses
We do not sell, rent, or trade any personal information to third parties. We do not use personal data for advertising.
4. Data Retention
Contact form enquiries are retained for as long as necessary to respond to your message, and no longer than 2 years. You may request deletion at any time by emailing hello@akaalo.com.
Local Nambi session logs remain on the device and are managed by the programme operator (school or training centre). Akaalo does not centrally store individual student records.
5. Children's Privacy
Nambi is used by school-age learners including children under 13. We take this responsibility seriously:
- Nambi does not collect names, photos, or personally identifiable information from students during use
- No student data is transmitted over the internet during normal offline operation
- Programme operators (schools, vocational training centres) are responsible for obtaining appropriate consent from parents or guardians where required by local law
6. Cookies
This website does not use marketing or tracking cookies. Cloudflare may set a security cookie (_cf_bm) for bot management purposes. No consent banner is shown because we do not use non-essential cookies.
7. Your Rights (GDPR and Uganda Data Protection Act)
If you are located in the European Union, UK, or Uganda, you have rights including:
- The right to access personal data we hold about you
- The right to rectification or erasure
- The right to restrict or object to processing
- The right to data portability

8. Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data. Our website is served over HTTPS. Nambi's local database is stored on-device and is not exposed to the internet.
9. Third-Party Services
- Cloudflare — website hosting, DNS, CDN, and DDoS protection
- Stripe — payment processing for card donations
- PayPal — payment processing for PayPal donations
- Web3Forms — contact form submission handling
Each of these services has its own privacy policy and data processing terms which govern their handling of any data they receive.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted by updating the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of our website or software after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
